Twenty years later, the same question

Twenty years in real estate and the same question as always: what does the client really need? Meet Patricia Mejía, a certified agent in Punta Cana.

"A good sale doesn't end when it's signed. That's where a relationship of trust begins."

That sentence sums up Patricia Mejía's 20-year career. And it explains why her clients, over time, stop being clients.

Twenty years, the same curiosity

Patricia's story in real estate started as a professional opportunity. Over time, it became something bigger.

"What started as a professional opportunity ended up becoming a real passion and a very important part of my life," she says.

Two decades later, she's watched the Dominican real estate market go through good times and hard ones, and from that she pulled a lesson she repeats as a working principle: "This business goes far beyond selling a property. It's about understanding people, listening to what they really need, and walking with them through decisions that are often some of the most important steps in their lives."

"After 20 years, I still have the same curiosity to learn," she says. "Because in real estate you can get to know the market, but you never stop getting to know people."

Her biggest driving force

Outside the office, Patricia is clear about what comes first: "My family is, without a doubt, my biggest driving force."

She likes to travel, discover new places, stay active. But above all, she values relationships. "I believe the relationships we build in life, both personal and professional, are our real wealth."

What nobody sees from the outside

From the outside, an agent's job looks simple: show a property, talk price, close a sale.

"But behind every deal there are countless hours of calls, searches, negotiations, visits, paperwork, problems to solve, and decisions to make," Patricia explains.

What she values most is what happens after the signing: "There's something that means a great deal to me: when a client starts out looking for a property and ends up becoming someone you keep a relationship with, long after the deal has closed."

Her focus: the Dominican East

Today Patricia works the market in the east of the Dominican Republic: Punta Cana, Bávaro, and Cap Cana. Investment, residential, and luxury properties, with an eye on international buyers.

"We're seeing more and more people who see the Dominican Republic not just as a tourist destination, but as a place where they can live, invest, and build wealth," she says. Her goal isn't just to show properties: it's to help the client understand the market and make a smart decision.

The stories that stay with her

We asked her what she loves most about the community she serves. She talked about Punta Cana's growth, about how it's become one of the most important real estate destinations in the Caribbean. But in the end, she came back to the same thing.

"Above all, I hold on to my clients' stories. I've met people who arrived looking for a vacation property and ended up becoming residents. People who started with a small investment and later bought a second property. Families who found their new home here."

"Properties change, projects change, and the market changes. But the trust and the relationships we build stay."
